As an Assistant Store Manager (Assistant Store Team Lead), you will get to know visiting pets and their owners by name. You will enjoy providing playful store experiences to remind neighbors just how fun it is to own a pet, and you will host adoption events with area rescue groups so homeless pets can find loving homes. WHAT AN ASSISTANT STORE TEAM LEAD DOES

  • Ensures pet center and team members are providing exceptional service and adhering to the cleanliness, animal care, cash handling, and safety and security standards established by the Pet Supplies Plus Handbook
  • Builds Team Member morale and results by understanding individual motivation and needs, recognizing and rewarding successful Team Member performance, and recommending new methods of recognition to the Team Leader
  • Partners with the Team Leader to develop the skills of Team Members to help them achieve their career goals  
  • Communicates daily goals and tasks clearly and ensures completion through proper follow-up
  • Reviews key business metrics and assists in developing opportunities for improvement by communicating ideas to Team Leader 
  • Assists Team Leader with training, providing clear and timely coaching, reinforcing neighborly behavior, and serving as a role model 
  • Assists Store Manager in building community partnership with organizations and rescue groups
  • Works well within a proven system and be willing to change when areas for improvement arise
  • Helps with recruiting and by reviewing applications and participating in interviews

WHAT AN ASSISTANT STORE TEAM LEAD NEEDS

  •  2 years of related experience leading a team in retail, pet specialty or related industry
  •  4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
  •  Strong strategic and analytical skills to effectively problem solve and drive results 
  •  Ability to process information/merchandise through the POS register system
  •  Proven ability to provide amazing customer experiences and motivate others
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) 
  •  Solid communication skills with the ability to motive and lead others
  •  Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment, while managing multiple tasks
  •  Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail and accuracy
  •  Have reliable transportation to work
  •  Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays as needed
  •  Ability to operate and use all equipment to run a pet center, including a forklift
  •  Be 18 years or older
  •  Pass a drug test and background check
